Work IQ User MCP Server (server ID mcp_MeServer, shown as "User" in the Microsoft 365 admin center) is a remote MCP server that Microsoft runs as part of Agent 365. It answers questions about people in a Microsoft 365 organization by reading the Microsoft Graph user directory: who the signed-in person is, who their manager is, a colleague's profile, who reports to whom, and a filtered or searched list of users.
It has six read-only tools. Two act on the caller (their own profile and their own manager), three take a user's object ID or userPrincipalName (profile, manager, direct reports), and one lists or searches the directory with OData options such as select, filter, orderby, top and count. Display names are not accepted as identifiers; Microsoft's reference says to find the person with mcp_graph_listUsers first and then pass the UPN or object ID. Chaining the manager and direct-report tools lets an agent walk the reporting line.
The server is reached at a tenant-specific URL on agent365.svc.cloud.microsoft; the registry entry com.microsoft/workiq-meserver lists the Entra tenant ID as a required variable in that URL. Microsoft labels the server a preview and places it among the legacy per-app servers (Copilot, Calendar, Mail, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, User, Word) kept for backward compatibility, and advises Work IQ MCP for new projects.
What it needs
A Microsoft 365 tenant with Agent 365 enabled and the server allowed in the admin center Tools registry; your Microsoft Entra tenant ID for the URL. Microsoft's developer path uses the Agent 365 CLI with .NET 8.0 SDK or later, and a Global Administrator must grant the MCP permissions to the agent blueprint (a365 setup all or a365 setup permissions mcp). Calls run with Entra OAuth, as an agent identity or on behalf of a signed-in user.
Limits
Preview: Microsoft says tool names and parameters may change and that it is not meant for production. It is one of the legacy per-app servers kept for backward compatibility; Microsoft advises Work IQ MCP for new work. Read-only: it cannot edit profiles or the org chart. User tools need an object ID or UPN, not a display name or "me". mcp_graph_getUserProfile can expand only one related item (manager or directReports) per call. mcp_graph_listUsers uses ConsistencyLevel eventual by default, so very recent directory changes may not show at once.
Who it suits
Suits teams already building agents on Microsoft Agent 365 that need an agent to know who the user is, find a colleague's email or job title, or follow the reporting line, with an admin who can approve the server and grant consent. It is a poor pick for new projects, since Microsoft itself steers those to Work IQ MCP, and for anyone without a Microsoft 365 tenant and admin rights: nothing runs locally. For messages or calendars, the sibling Work IQ Teams and Calendar servers cover those workloads; this one only reads directory data.
