This is a remote MCP server run by Microsoft as part of Agent 365. It sits in front of Microsoft Graph and gives an agent tools for Microsoft Teams: listing, creating, renaming and deleting chats; reading, posting, editing and deleting chat messages; listing a user's joined teams; creating and updating channels (standard, private or shared); reading and posting channel messages and replies; and adding members or changing their roles in chats and channels. There is nothing to install: each tenant has its own URL of the form https://agent365.svc.cloud.microsoft/agents/tenants/{tenantId}/servers/mcp_TeamsServer, and access is granted through the McpServers.Teams.All scope.
Microsoft's reference page lists 25 tools, 12 for chats and 13 for teams and channels, each named after the Graph call it makes (for example mcp_graph_chat_postMessage maps to POST on a chat's messages). The list tools accept OData options such as $top, $filter, $expand and $orderby, and long results are paged with @odata.nextLink.
Microsoft labels the server a preview and, on the same page, describes the per-app Microsoft 365 servers (Teams among them) as kept for backward compatibility only, not for production or new projects; it points new work to Work IQ MCP instead.
What it needs
A Microsoft 365 tenant with Agent 365, where an administrator has made the Teams server available in the Tools registry of the Microsoft 365 admin center and granted consent. Your tenant ID to build the endpoint URL, a Microsoft Entra work account with the McpServers.Teams.All scope, and an MCP client that can reach a streamable HTTP remote. Availability varies by tenant, region, rollout and licensing.
Limits
Preview: Microsoft says tool names and parameters may change and advises against hard-coding them, and the per-app servers are kept for backward compatibility only, not for production or new projects. Chat messages, channel messages and replies are plain text only. listTeams returns the joined teams of one user, not every team in the tenant; private and shared channels appear only to their members. Channel member tools work on private and shared channels and fail on standard ones. Deletes are soft deletes subject to tenant retention policy. Calls can be throttled (HTTP 429).
Who it suits
Suits teams already on Microsoft 365 and Agent 365 who want an agent to read and act in Teams under their own work account, without running anything themselves, and whose admin governs tools centrally. It can post, edit and delete messages and change channels and memberships, so it is more than a read-only feed. Because Microsoft itself steers new projects away from these per-app servers, anyone starting fresh should look at Work IQ MCP first; for Microsoft 365 content search rather than Teams actions, we also hold Microsoft's Work IQ Copilot server (work-iq-copilot-mcp-server) on the same platform.
