What it does

SharePoint Lists (server ID mcp_SharePointListsTools) is one of Microsoft's hosted Agent 365 MCP servers. It does not run on your machine: a client connects over HTTP to an address on agent365.svc.cloud.microsoft that contains your Microsoft Entra tenant ID, and the server acts on SharePoint through Microsoft Graph for the signed-in user. Microsoft's catalog describes it as Graph SharePoint tooling for lists, and also mentions site management, document libraries and collaboration features.

The point is to let an agent read and maintain SharePoint lists, their columns and their items in a Microsoft 365 tenant without having to call Graph itself. Microsoft's catalog files it under productivity.

This is a legacy server. Its per-server reference page on Microsoft Learn no longer exists. That address now opens the Work IQ article for Copilot Studio, and the article says workload-specific tools such as SharePoint remain available only for testing and backward compatibility and should not be chosen for new setups. The SharePoint reference that is still published covers a different server, which offers list tools such as listLists, createList and createListItem alongside file tools. Microsoft's catalog shows that this server's code lives in a private repository (bap-microsoft/MCP-Platform), so the only public description of it is the catalog entry.

What it needs

A Microsoft 365 tenant with Microsoft Entra ID, your tenant ID (GUID) for the endpoint address, and a user account with access to the SharePoint sites involved. An MCP client that supports remote streamable HTTP servers and Entra sign-in. Agent 365 tooling is managed in the Microsoft 365 admin center, so an admin may need to allow the server first.

Limits

Hosted only: there is no package or image you can run yourself. Microsoft treats it as legacy, kept for testing and backward compatibility, and its own reference page has been taken down, so its tool list is not publicly documented any more. Microsoft says the application-specific Microsoft 365 MCP tools should not be used in production or new projects. Where the admin center can allow or block MCP servers, that control may not be available in every region yet.

Who it suits

Suits Microsoft 365 tenants that already use this endpoint in an existing agent and need it to keep working. For anything new, Microsoft's own pages point elsewhere: Work IQ in Copilot Studio, or the current SharePoint server (sharepoint-agent-365 in our directory), which covers lists as well as files and still has a published tool reference. If you need a server you can inspect or run yourself, this is the wrong choice, because its code is private and it runs only in Microsoft's cloud.
