There is nothing to install: the client connects to https://docs.livekit.io/mcp over Streamable HTTP.
Its seven tools cover browsing the docs tree section by section, fetching pages as markdown (and source files from public LiveKit GitHub repositories by URL), keyword search over the docs, identifier search across public LiveKit code, recent changelog entries for any LiveKit SDK or package, LiveKit Cloud pricing and plan details, and sending feedback about a docs page. It also exposes two MCP resources, livekit://sdks (the list of SDK repositories and their package names) and livekit://docs/overview (the full table of contents).
LiveKit describes the server as free. The same functions are offered without MCP through the `lk docs` subcommand of the LiveKit CLI, and installing LiveKit's Agent Skills as a Claude Code plugin sets this server up as well. LiveKit's coding-agent guide advises preferring the browsing tools over search, and docs search over code search, because whole pages give the agent more context than raw code.
An MCP client that supports remote servers over Streamable HTTP (choose "http" or "Streamable HTTP" if the client asks for a transport) and network access to docs.livekit.io. No LiveKit account, API key or sign-in is needed to use it.
It only reaches public LiveKit material: the docs site, public LiveKit GitHub repositories, changelogs and published pricing. It cannot see a user's LiveKit Cloud project, rooms, agents or private code. code_search expects code identifiers such as class or function names rather than natural-language questions. It is hosted only; LiveKit publishes no package or source to run it yourself.
Developers building on LiveKit (Agents framework, SDKs, SIP telephony, LiveKit Cloud) who want their coding agent to check current APIs, examples and release notes instead of relying on what the model remembers. Being official, free and sign-in-free, it is a quick add for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and similar clients. Teams who cannot allow an assistant to contact an outside service, or who prefer a shell tool over MCP, can use the `lk docs` command of the LiveKit CLI instead, which LiveKit says offers the same capabilities. It does nothing for work outside LiveKit.
