Apple Docs MCP is an independent, community-built server (not from Apple) that runs locally over stdio and puts Apple's developer documentation within reach of an MCP client. It searches developer.apple.com, fetches full documentation pages through Apple's JSON documentation feed, lists frameworks and technologies, checks which OS versions and platforms an API supports, and follows related, referenced or replacement APIs from a given page. It also browses Apple's sample code projects, documentation updates and technology overviews.
The WWDC tools work differently: session metadata, transcripts and code snippets are shipped inside the npm package as JSON data, so listing, searching and reading WWDC sessions does not call Apple's site. The rest of the tools fetch live pages, with results held in an in-memory cache.
The tool list in the README is out of date. The code at v1.0.26 (src/tools/definitions.ts) registers 17 tools. `search_framework_symbols` from the README table is not among them, and the WWDC tools go by different names: `list_wwdc_videos`, `search_wwdc_content`, `get_wwdc_video`, `get_wwdc_code_examples`, `browse_wwdc_topics` and `find_related_wwdc_videos`, plus `list_wwdc_years`. The README names `search_wwdc_videos`, `get_wwdc_video_details` and `list_wwdc_topics` instead.
| Runtime | Node.js |
|---|
Node.js with npx, to run the npm package. Internet access to developer.apple.com for the documentation tools; the WWDC tools read data bundled in the package. No Apple account, API key or macOS needed. On Windows the README wraps the command as cmd /c npx.
Read-only: it looks things up and cannot change anything. `get_apple_doc_content` refuses any URL that is not on developer.apple.com (src/index.ts). WWDC content is only as new as the installed package version, so new sessions arrive with package updates. List-style tools return 50 results by default, `search_wwdc_content` 20, and `resolve_references_batch` resolves 20 references by default, up to 50 with `maxReferences`. The README's tool table names tools the code does not register (see above). The documentation tools depend on Apple's website and its unpublished JSON feed, and the server rotates browser User-Agent strings when fetching, so changes on Apple's side can break them.
Suits Swift and Objective-C developers working in Claude, Cursor, VS Code or another MCP client who want current Apple API references, availability details and WWDC transcripts pulled into a conversation instead of opening the browser. Since it only reads public documentation and needs no sign-in, it is a low-commitment install. Pick something else if you need to work with your own Xcode projects, build or run apps, or reach App Store Connect: this server only reads Apple's public documentation. Offline use is partial: only the WWDC tools work without a connection.
