What it does

theSVG MCP Server is the stdio server that comes with theSVG, an open collection of brand and product logos in SVG form. It gives an assistant five tools. It can find a logo by name, slug or alias, list the variants a logo comes in (mono, dark, wordmark and so on), browse the categories, get a jsDelivr link for embedding, and fetch the SVG markup itself.

The full icon index is built into the package (about 2.8 MB, per the package page), so search, variant lists, categories and URLs work without any network call. Only get_icon goes out to fetch the file from jsDelivr, and the code gives that request 10 seconds. search_icons uses fuzzy matching. It returns 20 results by default, and `limit` takes up to 100.

The package page doesn't spell this out, but the source file of version 0.8.4 still builds every CDN link against the repository's v0.6.0 tag, and the server reports itself as version 0.6.0. The bundled index is newer than that. Updating the index means installing a newer release, since nothing is fetched while the server runs.

What it needs

RuntimeNode.js 18+

Node.js 18 or newer, run through npx or a global npm install. No account or API key. Internet access to cdn.jsdelivr.net is needed only for get_icon.

Limits

Read-only: it can't add, edit or upload icons. The icon index is frozen at build time, so logos added to thesvg.org after a release don't show up until you install a newer package. In 0.8.4 the CDN links point at the repository's v0.6.0 tag (packages/mcp/src/index.ts), so get_icon may return an error for an icon added after that tag. search_icons caps `limit` at 100. The repository also has a Cloudflare Worker version for HTTPS connectors (ChatGPT, Claude.ai), but its README gives only example addresses and no confirmed public endpoint.

Who it suits

A good fit for developers and designers who want an assistant to drop real brand logos into HTML, Markdown or design files without hunting through press kits. It runs locally with no key, and it only reads a public catalogue. Pick something else if you need logos newer than the installed release, general UI icon sets, or a hosted endpoint for a web-only client: this package speaks stdio only.
