What it does

reicon-mcp is the MCP server published from the Reicon icon library's own repository. It gives an assistant a way to find an icon among the 2,700+ Reicon icons, look at its SVG, and get the code to drop it into a project, so a developer can ask for "a trash icon in red at 32px for React" without leaving the editor.

Search works from a search index that ships inside the package, so lookups need no network connection or account. The search matches synonyms, common misspellings and parts of names, and can be narrowed to the Outline or Filled weight. For a chosen icon the server returns either the raw SVG with its metadata, or an import line plus a usage snippet for react, react-native, vue, svelte, html (a CDN custom element) or plain svg, with size and colour filled in.

The same package is also a command-line tool. The bin script (bin/run.cjs) starts the MCP server over stdio only when it is given no arguments; any argument switches it to the CLI (search, view, apply, categories). Only the CLI's apply command can edit a file, by replacing a marker string; the MCP tools hand back text and leave inserting it to the assistant.

What it needs

RuntimeNode.js

Node.js with npx to run the published package. No account, API key or network access is needed once the package is installed, since the icon index is bundled. The generated import code assumes the matching Reicon package (for example reicon-react) is added to your project separately.

Limits

Covers only the Reicon icon set, in Outline and Filled weights. search_icons returns 8 results by default and at most 20 with limit; apply_icon accepts sizes from 8 to 256 px and defaults to 24 px and currentColor (src/server/index.ts). The MCP tools never write to your files: inserting code into a file by marker is a CLI-only feature (npx reicon-mcp apply ... --file ... --marker ...), and that command exits non-zero unless the marker appears exactly once. It runs over stdio only; there is no hosted endpoint. Passing any argument to the binary starts the CLI instead of the server.

Who it suits

Front-end developers who already use, or are choosing, Reicon icons and want their assistant to pick an icon and produce the correct import for React, React Native, Vue, Svelte or HTML. It is local, read-only and needs no key, so it is easy to add to any project. It is no help for other icon sets or for editing design files; pick a server for that icon library or design tool instead.
