What it does

NinjaTrader runs this MCP server on the Tradovate cloud API. An AI client connects to it over HTTP, signs in with the user's NinjaTrader or Tradovate account, and can then read the account's portfolio, quotes, depth of market, price history, order and fill history, cash ledger and performance figures, and act on it: place, change and cancel orders, flatten positions, edit risk and auto-liquidation settings, and manage price alerts.

There is nothing to install for the server itself. NinjaTrader hosts two separate endpoints: Demo at mcp-demo.tradovateapi.com, which trades simulated money, and Live at mcp-live.tradovateapi.com, which trades real money. A connection to one cannot reach the other. The GitHub repository nt-ninjatrader/mcp-skills holds client plugins and agent skills (position sizing, trade review, chart rendering and more) that call this server; the skills only propose orders and leave submission to the user.

The tools reference lists 29 tools, a count the README never gives. Two of them, timeline_report and timeline_details, appear only when the account has the timeline feature enabled, and the economic and earnings calendars only where the deployment has its market-info service turned on. Tools whose OAuth scope the account lacks are hidden from the agent. Write tools are flagged destructive so most clients ask before running them, except create_alert, which is marked safe to retry and may run without a prompt (safety page).

The whole service is a pre-release beta: NinjaTrader says hostnames, the tool set and onboarding may change before launch.

What it needs

A NinjaTrader or Tradovate account with demo or live access, and for trading, a subscription that permits it. An MCP client that supports remote HTTP servers with OAuth; sign-in happens in a desktop browser. Codex needs `codex mcp login ninjatrader-demo` (or ninjatrader-live) after adding the plugin. Claude Desktop plugins need a paid Claude plan. The companion skills need Python 3.10+.

Limits

Beta and not generally available; tools and hostnames may change. It cannot move funds, change login credentials, or cross between Demo and Live. Orders pass the account's normal risk engine and can be blocked or rejected (margin, max order or position size, closed sessions); an order that times out after 15 seconds returns failed but may still be working. Optional per-connection exposure limits are off by default and the agent cannot read them in advance. Bracket legs in place_order are offsets from entry, not prices. Access tokens last about 80 minutes and sessions end after about an hour idle. Per-tool rate limits apply.

Who it suits

Suits futures traders already on NinjaTrader or Tradovate who want an assistant to check positions, review past trades and draft or place orders, with the vendor running the server. Start on the Demo endpoint, since the Live one trades real money and write tools act directly on the account. Those who want a server that works with the NinjaTrader 8 desktop platform on their own machine rather than the Tradovate cloud, or who cannot accept a beta service, should look at the community NinjaTrader servers instead; this one needs no local install but sends account data to the AI client in use.
