Settings 4

FINANCIAL_MODELING_PREP_API_KEY Required: Financial Modeling Prep API key used for company and market data.
FRED_API_KEY Optional: Optional free FRED key, only needed for a few US-only indicators.
FINANCETOOLKIT_ENV_FILE Optional: Path to a .env file holding the keys, as an alternative to setting them inline.
MCP_TRANSPORT Optional: Set to streamable-http to run the local server over HTTP instead of stdio.

What it does

The Finance Toolkit MCP Server connects an assistant to the open-source Finance Toolkit Python library. Instead of leaving the arithmetic to the model, it computes 500+ documented methods (ratios, valuation models, risk and performance metrics, technical indicators, options pricing, fixed income and econometrics) from financial statements and market data, so the same question returns the same number in any client.

The methods are grouped into 22 categorical tools, such as valuation, profitability, risk and macroeconomics, each taking an indicator parameter that selects the exact metric, plus three search tools that help the assistant find the right tool and indicator. Equity tools take tickers; macro tools take countries. Results come back as compact JSON.

Company data comes from Financial Modeling Prep; macroeconomic data comes from the OECD and, optionally, FRED. A Financial Modeling Prep API key is required; the free plan is limited to 250 requests a day, 5 years of data and US-listed companies, while paid plans add full history and all exchanges.

It can be used through a free hosted endpoint that asks for the API key on an OAuth page on first use, or run locally with uvx, where a setup wizard writes the client configuration. It is MIT-licensed.
