What it does

The Nuxt team runs this MCP server on nuxt.com. An assistant connects to it over HTTP to read the framework's documentation without leaving the editor. Nothing is installed: you add the address https://nuxt.com/mcp to your client and it answers without sign-in.

It has 10 public tools in five groups. Documentation tools list pages and fetch one page by path. You can filter the list by Nuxt version (3.x, 4.x, 5.x or all), and the documentation resource uses 4.x by default. There is also a getting-started guide for a chosen version. Blog tools list posts and fetch one. Deployment tools cover hosting providers and their setup steps. Module tools search the module catalogue. A changelog tool returns recent releases of Nuxt core and the official modules. The server also offers three resources (documentation pages, blog posts, deploy providers) and three prompts: find-documentation-for-topic, deployment-guide and migration-help.

The source code on nuxt.com shows behaviour the docs page leaves out. list-modules fetches the catalogue from api.nuxt.com and returns at most 20 modules per call. It sorts by downloads, descending, unless you choose a different sort, and caches results for one hour (server/mcp/tools/modules/list-modules.ts). The same source tree also holds six admin tools for site feedback and assistant chat logs, such as list-feedback. Each one is switched on only when the caller passes an admin check (isMcpAdmin), so public clients do not see them.

You can send the optional X-MCP-Tools header to expose only some tools. It takes a comma-separated list of kebab-case tool names. With no header, every tool is exposed. An empty header exposes none, and an unknown name returns a configuration error.

What it needs

An MCP client that can connect to a remote server over streamable HTTP (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed and others), plus internet access to nuxt.com. You need no account or key. Claude Desktop uses the docs' local bridge, npx mcp-remote https://nuxt.com/mcp, which needs Node.js. In ChatGPT, custom connectors need a Plus or Pro plan with Developer mode turned on.

Limits

It covers only Nuxt's own content: docs, blog, deploy guides, the module catalogue and the changelog. It cannot see or change your project. list-modules returns at most 20 modules per call (sorted by downloads, descending, by default) and its results can be up to an hour old because of caching. The nuxt.com operators can change or remove the hosted tools at any time; there is no versioned release to pin.

Who it suits

It suits Nuxt developers who want their assistant to quote current Nuxt docs, migration notes or deploy steps instead of relying on memory. Setup is just a URL, and the server only reads public content. To let an assistant inspect your own running Nuxt or Vite app (routes, components, config), use antfu's nuxt-mcp-dev instead. That module runs locally inside your project and adds this endpoint to client configs as 'nuxt-docs'. For component-level Nuxt UI docs, the Nuxt UI team runs a separate server at ui.nuxt.com/mcp.
