It gives an MCP client the controls of a Devin organization: start and steer Devin sessions, edit the playbooks and knowledge notes Devin works from, set up schedules, check which integrations are installed, and ask questions about the documentation Devin generates for GitHub repositories, private ones included.
It has 13 tools in six groups, counted from the tool tables on its docs page. Four cover repository documentation (wiki structure, wiki contents, questions over up to 10 repositories at once, and a list of the repositories the account can query). Five cover sessions: create one or more sessions with a prompt, playbook, tags and an ACU limit, search them, send messages or terminate and archive them, read their events, and wait for several to finish. Three single tools list, create, update and delete playbooks, knowledge notes and schedules, and one lists integrations.
Compared with DeepWiki MCP, which we also list and which Cognition presents as its free sibling, this server needs a Devin account and API key, reaches private repositories, and adds the platform management tools. Only Streamable HTTP is served; the older /sse endpoint is deprecated.
A Devin account and an API key from it: an org-scoped service user key (cog_ prefix) works alone; enterprise service user keys and personal access tokens also need an X-Org-Id header with the organization ID from Settings > Devin API. Legacy apk_ keys are refused. An MCP client that speaks Streamable HTTP and can send custom headers.
Legacy API keys with the apk_ or apk_user_ prefix are not accepted. The SSE endpoint (/sse) is deprecated; only /mcp is supported. Questions with ask_question span at most 10 repositories. Sessions it creates run on Devin and use the account's ACUs, so they cost money on a paid plan. Devin Desktop expects the URL under serverUrl while most other clients use url; the docs warn that the wrong field makes the client silently ignore the server.
Teams already paying for Devin who want to hand work to Devin from another assistant or IDE, run several sessions in parallel and collect the results, or keep playbooks, knowledge and schedules in sync without the web app. It is official and hosted, so nothing runs locally, but it writes to the organization and can spend ACUs. Anyone who only wants to read documentation for public GitHub repositories without an account should pick DeepWiki MCP, which needs no key and is free.
