It gives a coding assistant one tool, remotion-documentation, which takes a short query and returns matching passages from the Remotion documentation. Remotion is a framework for making videos with React code, so this is meant for developers asking an assistant for help with Remotion projects.
The server runs locally over stdio as the remotion-mcp command from the npm package. It sends each query to Remotion's hosted service at mcp.remotion.dev and returns the text that comes back. It needs no key or account.
The server is deprecated. Remotion's docs say new installations are not recommended and that the hosted service will shut down no earlier than August 31, 2026. They suggest installing Remotion Agent Skills (npx remotion skills add) and using the /remotion-docs skill instead. Remotion gives these reasons: the MCP's data can be less current than the docs, Remotion pays the token costs for its requests, and agents do not call it reliably. GitHub issue #9055 tracks the shutdown.
