What it does
RuVector is a Rust-based, self-learning vector database for Node.js with semantic search, hybrid retrieval, graph relationships and feedback learning, and its npm package includes an MCP server (npx ruvector mcp start). Its tools give an agent semantic context retrieval, code analysis (structure, complexity, change classification, code boundaries, test-aware routing, a security scan), agent routing that learns from recorded outcomes, package and file decompilation with a witness record, and optional shared-brain, edge-cluster and identity tools.
The README describes about 97 tools and says to run npx ruvector mcp tools for the current, authoritative list; the main ones are shown here. Exposed tools can be narrowed with RUVECTOR_MCP_ALLOW and RUVECTOR_MCP_DENY or a read-only profile (RUVECTOR_MCP_PROFILE=readonly).
The default retrieval path runs locally with no database server or API key; the first semantic command downloads and caches a small embedding model. For automated agents the README recommends installing a pinned version locally (npm install --save-exact ruvector) rather than fetching @latest on each run.
