What it does

PO UI is an open-source Angular component library, and @po-ui/mcp is its makers' own MCP server for it, published from the same po-ui/po-angular monorepo under projects/mcp. It runs locally over stdio and gives a coding assistant six read-only tools: list the library's components, services, interfaces, enums and guides; fetch the Markdown reference for one item; pull the official example code for a component; fetch one of four best-practice documents; run a plain text search over the consolidated docs; and read a full guide.

No documentation ships inside the package. Each call fetches it live from po-ui.io (llms.txt, llms-full.txt and per-item pages), raw.githubusercontent.com and, for examples, the public GitHub API. The index and the repository tree are held in memory until the server restarts. Item names are normalised, so `po-button`, `<po-button>` and `PoButtonComponent` all resolve to the same page, and an item with no examples of its own falls back to its parent's (po-tab to po-tabs).

One thing the README does not spell out: at v21.34.0 the guides, best-practice documents, examples and fallback reference pages are all read from the repository's master branch (docs-client.ts), not from the tag that matches the PO UI version in your project, so what it returns describes the newest code, which may be ahead of the version you use.

What it needs

RuntimeNode.js 18+

Node.js 18 or later with npx on the PATH of the MCP client (some Windows clients need the full path to npx.cmd). Outbound HTTPS to po-ui.io, raw.githubusercontent.com and api.github.com. No account, key or PO UI project is needed.

Limits

get_component_examples uses the unauthenticated GitHub API, limited to 60 requests an hour per IP address; past that it returns an error (HTTP 403). The server has no setting for a GitHub token (docs-client.ts sends only a User-Agent), so the limit cannot be raised. search_docs is a case-insensitive substring match, not ranked search: 10 results by default, up to 50 with max_results, and each result shows at most the first 3 matching lines with two lines of context each (server.ts). get_best_practices covers four fixed topics only. Each request times out after 10 seconds, and nothing works offline.

Who it suits

Suits Angular developers building on PO UI who want their assistant to check component inputs, examples and guides instead of guessing. It is official, read-only, local and needs no sign-in, so it is low-friction to add. It only knows PO UI: for other Angular libraries or general Angular docs, use a server for those. Teams behind a strict proxy or without internet access cannot use it, and heavy use of examples from a shared IP will hit GitHub's hourly limit.
