Opens the app, which asks before it adds the server. Then replace each <NAME> in its settings with your value.
It needs TRELLO_API_KEY, TRELLO_TOKEN. Replace each <NAME> with your value.

MCP Server Trello is a community-built server that runs on your own machine. It talks to the Trello REST API with your API key and token, so an assistant can work with your Trello boards: read lists and cards, create and move cards, edit lists, manage checklists, labels, members, comments and custom fields, attach files, and create boards.
It keeps an active board and workspace that tools fall back to when no boardId is passed. You can switch them with set_active_board and set_active_workspace without restarting, and the choice is saved in ~/.trello-mcp/config.json. Requests are throttled to stay within Trello's limits of 300 requests per 10 seconds per key and 100 per 10 seconds per token.
A few tools go beyond plain API calls. get_acceptance_criteria pulls a card's acceptance-criteria checklist, find_checklist_items_by_description searches checklist items by text, and add_cards_to_list creates many cards in one call, one after another. The v1.8.1 source registers 57 tools in all. That count includes five health tools and perform_system_repair, which report on the server's own connection and state. The README's tool reference covers fewer than that and leaves out the health tools, copy_card, the label and member tools, and others.
| Runtime | Node.js |
|---|
Node.js (npx) or Bun (bunx); the published build starts with node, so Node is enough. A Trello account, plus an API key and token generated at trello.com/app-key, set as TRELLO_API_KEY and TRELLO_TOKEN.
Talks to the Trello API with one key and token; it cannot reach anything the token cannot. Cards and lists are archived, not deleted; the source has no tool to delete a card, list or board. Files are attached from a URL or from base64 data; no tool reads a path on your disk. add_cards_to_list creates cards one by one because Trello has no batch write. get_recent_activity returns 10 actions by default. TRELLO_BOARD_ID is marked deprecated in favour of set_active_board. Its docs give bunx in their examples; npx works the same.
Suits someone who wants an assistant to read and change their own Trello boards from a local client, with a key and token they control, and who wants checklist-heavy workflows such as acceptance criteria on cards. TRELLO_ALLOWED_WORKSPACES limits it to chosen workspaces. If you would rather not handle a long-lived token, or want a hosted connector for ChatGPT or Claude, Atlassian's own Trello MCP Server (which we also list) runs in Atlassian's cloud and signs in with OAuth instead.
