What it does

General Translation makes internationalization tools for React and Next.js apps (gt-next, gt-react, the gt CLI and the Locadex agent). This server, published on npm as @generaltranslation/mcp, gives a coding assistant the General Translation documentation so it can answer setup and API questions from the current docs rather than from memory.

It has two tools. One returns the docs index as published at generaltranslation.com/llms.txt, or the full text from llms-full.txt; the other fetches a single docs page by its path, such as en-US/docs/react/introduction.mdx. Both indexes are also offered as MCP resources (llms://llms.txt and llms://llms-full.txt). It runs locally over stdio and only makes plain HTTPS requests to generaltranslation.com.

In the 1.0.9 source, index fetches are kept in memory for 5 minutes, while single page fetches are not cached, and a page fetch returns whatever body the site sends back without checking the HTTP status, so a wrong path can come back as an error page's text rather than a tool error (src/utils/getDocs.ts).

The repository this entry points to is General Translation's monorepo; its locadex package is a CLI that opens the Locadex dashboard and is not an MCP server. The MCP server's folder (packages/mcp) is no longer on the main branch, and 1.0.9 is the last version on npm.

What it needs

RuntimeNode.js 18+

Node.js with a built-in fetch (Node 18 or later) to run it through npx, and outbound HTTPS access to generaltranslation.com. No account or API key is needed to read the docs.

Limits

Read-only: it cannot translate content, change a project or call the General Translation API; it only returns documentation text. It covers General Translation's own docs and nothing else. fetch-docs does not check the HTTP status, so a mistyped path can return a page's error text instead of failing. Its source has been removed from the main branch of the repository, so 1.0.9 may receive no further updates.

Who it suits

Developers adding gt-next, gt-react or the gt CLI to a project who want their assistant to look up the current General Translation docs while it writes the setup code. It needs no key and touches no files. Anyone wanting an assistant to actually run translations or manage a General Translation project needs the gt CLI or Locadex instead, which are not MCP servers.

Tools 2

list-docs
Returns the docs index (llms.txt) or, with type "full", the whole docs text (llms-full.txt)
fetch-docs
Returns one documentation page from generaltranslation.com by its path
