What it does

Verified Handles is a public directory of people, organisations and things, each listed with the social media handles and other identifiers that have been checked as really theirs. This MCP server is the site's own hosted endpoint, so an assistant can answer questions such as "is this X account the official one, and whose is it?" by looking up an entry by its VHID, short name or Wikidata QID, searching entries, finding which entries list a given handle or profile URL, fetching up to 50 records at once, and reading an entry's public edit history.

With no key it only reads the public record. Connected with an API key or by signing in through OAuth, it acts as the user's account and lists the tools that account's role allows: proposing changes and new entries for a reviewer, editing entries live where the entry's policy permits, setting images from Wikimedia Commons, reporting entries, proposing data from Wikidata, and tracking or withdrawing the user's own submissions. Trusted editors also get entry notes, image uploads, the application and review queues and Wikidata correction tools; administrators get many more (126 tools in all).

Every tool that changes something runs as a dry run by default, showing the exact change and whether the account may make it; a second call with dry_run set to false makes it, and destructive or site-wide changes also need a confirm value naming the target. The GitHub repository holds only the setup guides, tool schemas, changelog and a Claude Desktop extension; the server's code is not published there.

What it needs

An MCP client that speaks Streamable HTTP, or the mcp-remote bridge (Node.js 18 or later) for Claude Desktop's config file. Reading needs nothing else. Changing anything needs a Verified Handles account, signed in through OAuth at the /mcp/account address or with an API key made under Console, Account, Manage API keys.

Limits

Without a key only five read tools are listed; what a key can do is capped by its role ceiling and the account's role, and live edits are allowed entry by entry, otherwise only proposals for a reviewer. API keys expire after 1 to 90 days, with at most 5 per account and 10 connected OAuth apps. No-key calls are limited to 60 a minute per IP address (shared by everyone on that address, such as all claude.ai connectors); keyed calls to 120 a minute per key. It is hosted only; the server code is not public.

Who it suits

Suits anyone who wants an assistant to check whether a social account or identifier is the verified one for a person or organisation, which works with no account at all. Contributors and editors of Verified Handles can also use it to propose or make edits, manage images and work through their submissions, with dry runs guarding each change. It is not a general identity or account-lookup service: it only knows the entries in this one directory, and it needs a network connection to the vendor's server.
