Add in one click

Opens the app, which asks before it adds the server. Then replace each <NAME> in its settings with your value.

Or add it by command or config

Its sign-in lets no client register itself: a client signs in only with an app (a client ID) registered with its maker first, so these snippets work only after that step.

Settings 1

SMARTSHEET_API_TOKEN Optional: Smartsheet API token sent as the Bearer header by clients without Smartsheet OAuth (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI); the docs say the variable name is your choice.

What it does

The Smartsheet MCP Server is run by Smartsheet itself at https://mcp.smartsheet.com, with separate endpoints for the EU (https://mcp.smartsheet.eu) and Australia (https://mcp.smartsheet.au). There is nothing to install: a client connects over streamable HTTP and acts with the permissions of the Smartsheet user who signed in.

Its tools cover most of daily Smartsheet work. An assistant can search across your assets, browse workspaces and folders, read a sheet's structure and rows, add, change or delete rows and columns, look at a cell's history, handle attachments, discussions and comments, read reports, and build dashboards. Tools added during 2026 manage automated workflows, generate charts from a plain-language request, create portfolios and project templates, and run Scenario Planning for resource plans.

The tools reference page documents 77 tools, and the changelog shows the set still changing: in October 2026 add_chart_to_dashboard was replaced by add_charts_to_dashboard, and update_workflow and get_scenario_group were added. Tools are grouped into toolsets (such as automations, discussions, portfolio, sharing and scenario_planning) that a client can load on demand through search_tools and a read or write executor per toolset, so not every tool needs to sit in the client's context at once.

Each tool needs a named OAuth scope. The endpoint's sign-in metadata lists eleven, from READ_SHEETS through DELETE_SHEETS, ADMIN_WORKSPACES, ADMIN_USERS and SHARE_SHEETS, which shows how far a connection can reach.

What it needs

A Smartsheet account on a Business, Enterprise or Advanced Work Management plan; portfolio and Scenario Planning tools need Enterprise or Advanced Work Management. Clients with Smartsheet's OAuth (ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Desktop, Gemini Enterprise Plus, Microsoft 365 Copilot) sign in through the Smartsheet connector; Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI need a Smartsheet API token sent as a Bearer header. Cursor's documented setup runs mcp-remote through npx, which needs Node.js.

Limits

Hosted only: there is no package or source to run yourself, and data passes through Smartsheet's service. Tools are subject to Smartsheet API rate limits; get_cell_history is limited to 30 requests per minute per API token. query_chart works only on charts already saved to a dashboard. Several tools are marked destructive and irreversible in the docs, including delete_portfolio, which removes a portfolio with all its templates, projects and workspace contents. Tool names change between releases (add_chart_to_dashboard was removed in October 2026), so saved prompts naming tools may break.

Who it suits

Suits teams already on a paid Smartsheet plan who want an assistant to find, read and update their sheets, reports and dashboards without running anything locally, and who prefer a server maintained by Smartsheet. Its write and delete tools reach whole workspaces and portfolios, so for cautious use connect as a user with limited sharing. It does not fit free or Pro accounts. We also list mcp-server-smartsheet-rm, a community Python package you run yourself; it works on Resource Management by Smartsheet (the 10,000ft API) rather than sheets, so pick it for timesheets and resource scheduling in that product.
