Settings 5

SKETCHFAB_API_KEY Optional: Sketchfab API token; search_models needs it.
TRIPO_API_KEY Optional: Tripo AI API key; generate_3d_model needs it and bills generations to that account.
SCENEVIEW_TELEMETRY Optional: Set to 0 to turn off anonymous usage telemetry, which is on by default.
PORT Optional: Port for --http mode; 3333 by default.
HOST Optional: Address for --http mode; 127.0.0.1 by default.

What it does

sceneview-mcp is the MCP server published by the SceneView project, the open-source 3D and AR SDK built on Filament and ARCore for Jetpack Compose, RealityKit and ARKit for SwiftUI, and Filament.js with WebXR in the browser. It gives a coding assistant the SDK's own reference material so it writes current SceneView code instead of guessing from older Sceneform or 2.x examples.

Most tools return bundled content: setup steps per platform, 38 sample scenarios in Kotlin or Swift, signatures for the node types, migration notes from 2.x and 3.x, and guides on animation, gestures, materials, collisions, performance and model optimisation. validate_code checks a snippet against the SDK's public API and a rule set, and migrate_code rewrites old 2.x Kotlin. A few tools go further: analyze_project scans a project folder for the SceneView version and known mistakes, search_models queries Sketchfab, generate_3d_model asks Tripo AI for a new GLB model, and view_3d_model shows a model in an inline viewer in hosts that support MCP Apps widgets, such as ChatGPT.

Version 4.1.2 defines 32 tools in dist/tools/definitions.js, more than the README's tables list by name. Three of them (render_3d_preview, create_3d_artifact, generate_scene) are local-only per dist/surfaces.js: the hosted endpoint at https://mcp.sceneview.dev/mcp, which needs no sign-in, refuses them. Every tool is free; the same file notes that a paid Pro tier was removed in August 2026.

What it needs

To run it yourselfNode.js 18+

Node.js 18 or later for the npx command. search_models needs a free Sketchfab API token in SKETCHFAB_API_KEY. generate_3d_model needs a Tripo AI API key in TRIPO_API_KEY, and generations are charged to that Tripo account. search_android_docs and fetch_android_doc need Google's android CLI on the PATH, which the npm package does not bring. The hosted endpoint needs nothing installed.

Limits

It covers SceneView only; it does not compile or run your app. The hosted endpoint does not serve render_3d_preview, create_3d_artifact or generate_scene, cannot use your Sketchfab or Tripo keys, and its analyze_project cannot see your local project. Model download URLs from generate_3d_model expire about five minutes after generation, and polling gives up after 2 minutes (fast) or 4 minutes (hd). analyze_project reads at most 30 source files and 500 KB. The makers say generated code comes without warranty and should be reviewed before production use. When run with --http it binds to 127.0.0.1:3333 unless HOST or PORT is set, and allows any CORS origin.

Who it suits

Suits Android, iOS, visionOS or web developers who build with SceneView and want an assistant to give them current setup steps, samples and API signatures, and to check its output before showing it. Since nearly everything is bundled and read-only, the hosted endpoint is enough for docs and samples. Run it locally to scan your own project or to search Sketchfab and generate models with your own keys. It is of little use for other 3D engines or for plain ARCore or ARKit work outside SceneView.
