What it does

OpenFang is an open-source agent operating system written in Rust: a single binary that runs autonomous agents with built-in tools, skills, a credential vault, channel adapters for messaging platforms and a desktop app. Besides using MCP servers as a client, it can act as an MCP server itself.

Run as a stdio server with openfang mcp, it turns each of your OpenFang agents into an MCP tool named openfang_agent_{name} (for example openfang_agent_code_reviewer). The tool takes a single message and returns the agent's reply, so an editor or desktop client can hand work to an agent you have set up in OpenFang. The command forwards calls to a running OpenFang daemon if there is one, or boots an in-process kernel otherwise. A separate HTTP endpoint (POST /mcp on the daemon) exposes the full tool set instead: the built-in tools such as file_read and web_fetch, installed skills and connected MCP servers.

Install OpenFang with its install script (curl -fsSL https://openfang.sh/install | sh, or the PowerShell script on Windows), set it up, then configure your client to run openfang with the argument mcp. The README notes OpenFang is pre-1.0 and may have breaking changes between minor versions.
