What it does

Netdata is an open-source real-time infrastructure monitoring agent, and every recent Netdata Agent (v2.6.0+) has an MCP server built in. It lets an assistant act as a DevOps or SRE helper over your monitoring data: discover nodes and metrics, run time-series queries with grouping and aggregation, find anomalous, unstable or correlated metrics during an incident, list raised alerts and alert history, and run Netdata functions such as processes, network connections, systemd services and systemd-journal or Windows event logs.

There are two ways to connect. Netdata Cloud has a hosted endpoint at https://app.netdata.cloud/api/v1/mcp (Streamable HTTP) with visibility across every node claimed to your Cloud space; it needs a paid plan and a Cloud API token with scope:mcp. Or connect to a single Agent or Parent at http://YOUR_IP:19999/mcp (HTTP, SSE or WebSocket), which sees only that node or its children; stdio-only clients can use the nd-mcp bridge that ships with Netdata.

On an Agent, sensitive functions (logs and live system information) need the local MCP API key, which Netdata generates and stores in /var/lib/netdata/mcp_dev_preview_api_key, and the Agent must be claimed to Netdata Cloud.
