Optional: Largest response in characters, 25000 by default. |
Meshy MCP Server is the Meshy team's own bridge between an MCP client and the Meshy AI 3D generation API. Through 28 tools an assistant can turn a text prompt or one to four photos into a 3D model, refine and retexture it, remesh it, add a skeleton and animations to a humanoid character, convert or resize it, and generate or edit 2D images with several image models. A Creative Lab tool runs a whole photo-to-product pipeline (figures, keychains, lamps, keycaps and similar) and returns only the finished model.
It also covers 3D printing: a free printability check, paid repair, multi-colour 3MF output, splitting a model into printable parts, and a slicer tool that looks for seven installed slicers. That tool does not open the slicer itself; per src/utils/slicer-detector.ts it only checks which programs are installed and hands back a launch command for the client to run.
Almost every call spends Meshy credits (from 1 credit for a conversion to 62 for a keycap product), and generation tasks run asynchronously, so the tools for status, listing, cancelling and downloading tasks matter as much as the generators. Downloaded models are saved under a meshy_output folder in the directory the server was started from (src/services/output-manager.ts), sorted into project folders with metadata.
| Runtime | Node.js 18+ |
|---|
Node.js 18 or newer (the launch command uses npx). A Meshy account with an API key starting with msy_; Meshy's README says API keys need the Pro plan or above, and each generation spends credits from that account. Usage reporting needs a Studio or Enterprise team. Opening results in a slicer needs one of the supported slicers installed.
Every tool except the printability check and list or status calls costs Meshy credits; a refined textured model is 30 to 35 credits. Rigging and animation are for humanoid characters. Some options are deprecated (ultra_mode, hd_texture, meshy-7 and meshy-t1 model ids), meshy-5 is no longer accepted, and model_type lowpoly retires on 2026-10-30. Model choices differ per tool: retexture does not take meshy-7.1, and multi-image generation has no Smart Topology. In HTTP mode (TRANSPORT=http) the /mcp endpoint has no sign-in of its own and Express listens on every interface at PORT, 3000 by default (src/index.ts at v0.6.4). Responses are cut at 25,000 characters unless CHARACTER_LIMIT is raised.
Suits developers, game artists and 3D-printing hobbyists who already pay for Meshy and want an assistant to generate assets, rig characters or prepare prints from a chat. As Meshy's own server it tracks new Meshy models quickly. It is a poor fit without a paid Meshy plan, for anyone who wants local, offline 3D generation (all work runs on Meshy's servers), or for editing existing meshes by hand, which is a job for a desktop 3D tool.
