The DBX MCP Server connects coding assistants to the databases configured in DBX, an open-source desktop database manager that supports over 100 databases. Through it an assistant can list connections and databases, browse tables, views and collections, describe columns, read stored procedure source, get compact schema context, and run SQL, MongoDB shell commands and Redis commands, including multi-statement scripts and stateful sessions that keep one connection.
It also reads Kafka messages without committing offsets, sends messages to supported queues, handles Salesforce SOQL queries and confirmed two-step record writes, can add or remove DBX connections, and, when the DBX desktop app is running, opens a table or shows a query result in its interface.
The server is written in Rust and ships through npm as a small Node.js launcher (npx -y @dbx-app/mcp-server, Node.js 18.18 or newer) or as native binaries without Node.js. It reads connection profiles from DBX's local storage, so connections are set up in DBX first; DBX does not need to stay open for native connections. It can also point at a DBX Web or Docker backend with DBX_WEB_URL, or serve Streamable HTTP protected by a bearer token. What it may do is set in DBX Settings, MCP: an allowlist of connections and one of three modes (read only, data read/write, full access).
