Brex runs this MCP server itself at https://api.brex.com/mcp. It connects an assistant to a company's Brex account so it can look up the signed-in user and colleagues, read expenses, cards and spend limits, check business bank accounts and their transactions, browse bills and vendors, see accounting records and general ledger accounts, and list travel trips, bookings and group events. Account and card admins also get a tool for asking high-level company spend questions.
It is not read-only: a handful of tools change expense data. They can update memos on several expenses at once, attach receipts fetched from URLs, replace the attendees on a card expense and assign card expenses to a spend limit, and one tool sends feedback to Brex's product team.
The docs list 43 tools, and each needs a specific Brex capability (for example view expenses, view accounts and balances, or view travel); a user only sees and changes what their own Brex permissions allow. The server's OAuth metadata (https://api.brex.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp) advertises scopes such as users.readonly, cards, expenses.card, expenses.bill, accounts.cash.readonly and accounting.record.read, and names two authorization servers: api.brex.com and accounts-api.brex.com/oauth2/default.
Brex labels the server as beta and says its tools may change.
What it needs
A Brex account. An account admin or card admin must accept the Developer API agreement (Settings → Developer) and turn on the beta 'Brex in AI assistants' (Settings → Beta features); then any employee can sign in with OAuth. API-key sign-in needs a token that only account and card admins can create. Claude Desktop's manual config runs mcp-remote through npx and needs Node.js v20+. Codex users finish sign-in with codex mcp login brex.
Limits
Beta: Brex says tools may change. Approvals and card management are not available through MCP yet. Each tool is gated by a Brex capability, so most users see only part of the 43 tools; query_expense_analytics is for account or card admins only. Hosted only: there is no package or source to run locally. OAuth clients need Dynamic Client Registration support; others must use an admin's API token.
Who it suits
Suits finance teams and employees at companies already on Brex who want an assistant to answer questions about their own expenses, limits, bills, banking transactions or travel without opening the dashboard, and admins who want quick company spend answers. Because it is Brex's own hosted service with per-user OAuth, nothing runs on your machine. Teams that need approvals, card issuing or card controls from an assistant, or that cannot enable a beta feature, should wait or use the Brex Developer API directly.
